Alliance Christian Academy is a small private school which is an extension of ministry through Gregory Drive Alliance Church. It is our desire to offer quality Christian education that meets the requirements of the Ontario curriculum, while instilling Biblical truths and values that are woven into the entire day.
Our educational model has the following goals:
Whether a student is a high achiever or a moderately paced learner, our education process proceeds at the exact level determined by the child’s ability.
Individualization makes it possible for each student to master the subject before moving on. Such mastery is the foundation upon which all future learning is built.
Biblical character training received as part of this learning experience prepares students to welcome and accept challenges and future opportunities that come their way.
Biblical values and concepts considered foundational to relationships and productive living are conveyed throughout the curriculum in such a way as to become life-shaping influences.
Because this model is an ‘independent learning’ education model, students are not dependent on a teacher to deliver the lessons. Children learn to teach themselves by reading, following step-by-step guides and studying examples. This lends to a life-skill where kids learn to investigate themselves, figure things out and learn by trying. All with the support of a ‘teacher’, monitors and tutors in the room.
After acceptance, a proper academic diagnosis is vital to our students success. Students enrolled in Northside Alliance Christian Academy are given diagnostic tests to determine skill and concept mastery. An advisor will custom design a course of study from the test results for each individual student and each individual subject. Weak areas (gaps) are strengthened first; then the student continues, progressing at his/her achievement level. Testing is done regularly and if a student doesn’t receive an 80% mark on their unit tests, they go back and relearn the coursework. Students don’t graduate to ‘the next thing’ under they fully understand the ‘first thing’.
Every week, the student will set realistic goals for themselves to get their coursework done. This is written out and then checked and approved by the ‘teacher’. Children learn how to set goals, manage their time and how to prioritize. Students have the freedom to decide how their day looks (ie: which order to do their work in) and any unfinished work goes home to be completed for the next day.
Privileges are also given to students who complete their coursework.
